We are so excited to bring to you the 2023 Canadian Perinatal Conference brought to you by the Global Perinatal Support Workers Inc. Our world has changed drastically over the last 20 years and even more so over the last 3 years For anyone who works with this demographic, it is clear that we as educators, supporters and care providers need to be aware of the social changes impacting the community and how we can better support our clients and patients. We are excited to start off our very first conference with a line up of speakers who work with clients and patients on a regular basis and who have seen how we as providers can help them navigate through this new parenting world with less frustration and anxiety.

Ann Douglas sparks conversations that matter about parenting and mental health. She is the weekend parenting columnist for CBC Radio and the creator of Canada’s bestselling series of pregnancy and parenting books, The Mother of All book series. Her most recent books are Happy Parents, Happy Kids and Parenting Through the Storm.
If you've already met Ann via one her books, you know what you can expect from one of her presentations: to be inspired, informed, and entertained. Not only will she shift your thinking about what the challenges that parents are facing in 2020: she’ll move you to action as well. Debbie Fazio is a Parenting & Empowerment Coach and the Founder and CEO of Precious Moments Babeez Inc. She is a Newborn Care Specialist, Happiest Baby instructor and a Board Certified Sleep Consultant who works with families around the globe. Her combined experience, training and certifications have enabled her to support families in many baby & child related issues. Being a mother of 3 children, including a set of twins, has enabled her to be compassionate, non-judgmental and knowledgeable in her role in helping parents. Debbie has supported many families in Canada and across the globe with issues from newborn care, feeding, sleep nurturing, sleep training and behaviour modification for families with one child as well as families with multiples. She is also the Co-Founder and Faculty for the Global Perinatal Support Worker (PNSW) Program Inc. in Canada. The social media epidemic and how we connect with the real world is impacting parents, parenting and mental health. Debbie will be sharing how we as professionals may need to tailor how we work with families in this new world and some tips you'll be able to offer your patients and clients.

Topic: Parenting with intellectual Disability in the Digital Age: Positives, Pitfalls and Possibilities
Alicia Gonen has been working in the nonprofit sector since 2009, where she has worked with marginalized populations of diverse backgrounds. Her professional experience includes; working for a mentorship program, an exit gang program, an autism program and an employment initiative for individuals facing barriers to employment. Alicia recently joined the Parenting Enhancement Program at Surrey Place, as the program expands to service more parents with developmental disabilities across Toronto. She received her Masters of Education with an emphasis in Applied Behaviour Analysis from Western University in 2015. She has supported individuals with IDD, mental health issues and those with dual diagnosis in their effort to become more active members of their communities.
Deborah Bluestein M.A.- Deborah has an undergraduate degree in Rehabilitation Services and a Masters degree in Developmental Psychology and Education. For the past 22 years, Deborah has been working as a Parenting Enhancement Program Therapist at Surrey Place Centre in the Parenting Enhancement Program (PEP). She works with Parents with developmental disabilities, providing support and education around parenting skills. Deborah is also a part-time professor at Seneca College in the Faculty of Continuing Education and Training.

Paula is a clinical content specialist at BORN Ontario with a focus on Public Health. She has had a diverse career in healthcare working in both community and hospital. She has devoted most of her career focused on maternal-child health. She is a registered nurse and holds a master's degree in Psychology specializing in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. In her role at BORN, she has been the BORN clinical project lead of a partnership with the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS) with the provincial rollout of the BORN & HCD-ISCIS Integration Initiative (eHBHC). She has had a key role in the revitalization of the OMama website and app.
Email Paula - RN BScN, MSPsy Dana is a NICU Clinical Content Specialist at BORN Ontario and has over 18 years of clinical NICU experience. Her past positions include bedside nurse, charge nurse, and assistant transport nurse. Her passion is improving the care and outcomes of babies across Ontario which includes, but is not limited, to the delicate process of transporting such fragile patients. Her portfolio is focused on supporting high quality, provincially representative data in the BORN Registry from Ontario’s NICU and Special Care Nursery partners, as well as engaging with these partners to design and implement effective tools that support the facilitation or improvement of care for neonates. Her extensive clinical knowledge gives her the ability to coordinate and lead the engagement, adoption, and change management strategies for the implementation and maintenance of BORN’s technical systems around neonatal data.

Jaime Charlebois and Patricia Tomasi
Canadian Perinatal Mental Health Collaborative
Topic: How social media helps & hinders the perinatal mental health movement!
Jaime Charlebois is co-founder of the Canadian Perinatal Mental Health Collaborative whose mission it is to have the federal government enact a national perinatal mental health strategy. Jaime is the Regional Perinatal Mood Disorder Coordinator throughout North Simcoe Muskoka, working out of Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital. She is also a Regional Volunteer Coordinator for Postpartum Support International. She holds a Master of Science in Nursing and a Perinatal Nursing Certification from the Canadian Nurses Association. Jaime’s work experience includes 18 years of clinical nursing, 7 years of teaching and simulation, and 5 years in clinical leadership positions. She has collaborated at the local, provincial, and national level with multiple organizations and committees. Jaime suffered from untreated postpartum depression, anxiety, and obsessive compulsive disorder 13 years ago. In her current position she uses her lived experience to advocate for equitable services and provides education/training to local health care and social service providers who support families suffering from perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.
Patricia Tomasi is co-founder of the Canadian Perinatal Mental Health Collaborative whose mission it is to have the federal government enact a national perinatal mental health strategy. She’s a mom of two and former journalist who became a full time perinatal mental health advocate after struggling to find help for prenatal and postpartum depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. She has written numerous articles on perinatal mental health for HuffPost Canada and runs the cheeky Maternal Mental Health Matters Facebook and Instagram pages. Be sure to join her private Facebook Postpartum Depression & Anxiety Support Group with thousands of women from around the world who support each other 24/7.

Breastfeeding Buddies
Topic: Building Supportive Breastfeeding Communities in a Digital Age
Michelle Buckner is the mother of 3 breastfeed children, holds a degree in Social Work, was a La Leche League Leader for 15 years and currently coordinates the Breastfeeding Buddies Program in Waterloo Region, Canada. Michelle has been supporting women, parents and families for 20 years, has spoken at conferences across Canada on the topic of peer breastfeeding support, reaching priority populations, and engaging community partners in a collaborative peer lead model of support. Michelle is the co author of several provincial Best Start peer breastfeeding training courses, is a BFI Level 1 facilitator and the 18 hour WHO peer breastfeeding course. Michelle sat on the RNAO breastfeeding advisory panel, secured a large grant for breastfeeding advocacy, was awarded the Ontario Elementary Teachers Federation “Women Working in Social Activism” award and the Laurier University “Social Inclusion award” for her work with parents and children who face barriers to healthcare and breastfeeding/chestfeeding support.
