What is a Perinatal Doula? 
A Perinatal Doula is a graduate from an academic program who has been educated and trained to facilitate the support requirements of their clients, from pregnancy through birth and extending into the first year of infancy.  This course was developed in response to the industry need for individuals who have a passion for working with perinatal families but are not eligible to take the PNSW program.
How does the Perinatal Doula program differ from other programs?
The Perinatal Doula is an intermediate program that has no prerequisites.
The Perinatal Doula program offers intermediate-level knowledge of the perinatal period.
The
Perinatal Doula is offered as self-directed learning.

Are there any prerequisites to enter into the Perinatal Doula program? 
No prerequisites 

What are the advantages to being a Perinatal Doula? 
A Perinatal Doula graduate will receive a Perinatal Doula Certificate from Global Perinatal Support Worker Inc. The program provides a comprehensive education that prepares graduates to support a wide range of families throughout the reproductive cycle and into the first year of infancy. Graduates benefit from learning with multiple educators who are experienced leaders in their respective fields.


 
Can I still work while taking the Perinatal Doula training?
The theory portion of the program is offered in an asynchronous format, allowing you to
complete the coursework on your own schedule. This flexibility means you can continue
working full-time while progressing through the course at your own pace. 


Do I need to have a college or university background to take the Perinatal Doula course? 
No

If I have already taken a doula training, does it count against the Perinatal Doula course?

Due to the wide variance in doula training, we are unable to apply previous training
to the academic portion of the program. Students with previous work experience can
petition to have a portion of this applied against their experiential hours.


Will there be an exam? 
No, there is currently no final exam.

Are Doulas regulated by the government? 
No, they are not regulated.

What is the scope of practice for a Perinatal Doula?

What is the passing mark required to graduate from the Perinatal Doula course? 
80% is considered a passing grade. 

Can the Perinatal Doula credits be transferred to the PNSW program if I later decide to enroll?
Yes, as long as you have the prerequisites to qualify for the PNSW program.

How much can I expect to earn as a Perinatal Doula?
This is entirely dependant on how you decide to utilize this designation.

Can a student be dismissed from the Perinatal Doula program? 
Yes. Any student unable to meet the academic requirements will be dismissed from the program. Students who display behaviours that are oppressive or antagonistic towards others will also be dismissed.     

Is the Perinatal Doula program right for me?
If you are someone who wants to improve themselves and create additional professional opportunities, then the Perinatal Doula program could be the right program for you. We are looking for people who understand the value of appropriate and relevant support at any stage of life. People who are not afraid to place themselves at the vanguard of a profession and who want to make a difference for new parents and families. If you are looking for a career, then consider the Perinatal Doula program. If you are looking for a new job, then this program may not be right for you. 


Can the Perinatal Doula program guarantee employment?
As with all academic programs, the Perinatal Doula program cannot guarantee employment however, we can guarantee that your employment opportunities will increase.
