FCS Code of Ethics

Honesty & integrity: Communicate openly and honestly, showing courtesy and compassion in every interaction.

Privacy & confidentiality: Be respectful of recipients’ privacy and comply with privacy laws and employer policies.

Professionalism & accountability: Provide competent, dignified care, maintain appropriate boundaries, collaborate, and behave professionally at all times. Treat all colleagues and other professionals with a respectful and professional manner at all times.

Record keeping & reporting: Clearly and accurately document care services provided.

Ethical business practices: Charge reasonable fees, perform services regardless of fee,  issue receipts, as applicable and honor agreements and contracts.

Recipient autonomy: Provide information to ensure informed consent and respect personal beliefs.

Clear qualifications: Provide accurate name and role.

Tolerance & acceptance: Respect care recipients’ cultural and religious beliefs and do not discriminate against others.

Continued Education:  Pursue continuing education to ensure updated knowledge in your field. 

FCS Scope of Practice


  • A FCS facilitates physical, educational and emotional support as needed for their clients.
  • A FCS provides research and evidence based educational information to their clients as requested.
  • A FCS provides open-minded, non-judgmental, mindful support and/or facilitation for their clients.
  •  A FCS provides non-therapeutic comforting touch for their clients as requested.
  • A FCS provides assistance with minor household chores as requested.
  • A FCS provides basic baby care for clients.
  • A FCS facilitates communication for their clients. A FCS does not ever speak for their clients.
  • A FCS who is requested to provide services outside of their scope of practice must decline and refer the client to an appropriate resource.
  • A FCS behaves in a professional and respectful manner to all members of their clients' health care support team.
  • A FCS behaves in a professional and respectful manner to all members of the clients' family, friends and chosen support team.
  • A FCS behaves in a professional and respectful manner to all members of the FCS community.
  • A FCS does not provide any clinical or medical care for the mother, baby or any family members.
  • A FCS does not recommend any clinical or medical treatment for the mother, baby or family
  • members.
  • A FCS does not perform any invasive procedures or treatments for their clients.
  • A FCS does not provide transportation for their clients.​
  • To be listed on the FCS registry, FCS must ensure that they always practice with up to date $2 million liability insurance, vulnerable sector police check & CPR​-C.
